Seattle Weld Nonprofit to Manage Homes for Recently Released Parolees

SEATTLE, WA – The Carl Haglund Foundation announced today that it will donate two fully furnished congregate living homes to the Seattle-based Weld nonprofit. Weld accepts donated homes and manages them for individuals recently released from incarceration. Weld also facilitates job training and wrap around social services for the parolees. The donated homes will provide private, furnished transitional housing to 15 individuals.

“It is important that members of the housing industry step up and donate houses to Weld and other community partners to make sure these folks have a fresh start and a chance to rebuild their lives. The Carl Haglund Foundation wanted to be part of that process and we are happy to donate these two houses” said Carl Haglund, president of the foundation. “If we can give a parolee a place to live, a job, and a little hope for the future, the chances of recidivism are radically reduced. This is a win-win situation for the city, the taxpayers and the individual leaving prison. Less recidivism means less crime for the people of Seattle.”

According to the Weld website, “Weld Seattle helps people returning home from prison rebuild their lives after they have repaid their debt. Helping a person released from incarceration find a safe place to live is critical to reducing homelessness and recidivism, as well as helping to ensure stability for the children, families, and communities of those former inmates. Fewer than 4% of Weld members have been rearrested.”

Providing these two houses will cost Haglund $135,000 a year in lost revenue, but that did not appear to bother the owner. “In this Covid world, we all need to go the extra mile to provide help. This is one of my contributions to the cause.”

The Carl Haglund Foundation advocates for citizens suffering from homelessness and opioid addiction. More information can be found at www.carlhaglundfoundation.com
